The history of Kashmir

Cashmere has been synonymous with luxury and elegance for centuries. The noble fabric comes from the undercoat of the cashmere goat that lives in the rough, barren landscape of the Kashmir Valley. This wool is particularly soft, light and warm at the same time, which makes it ideal for high-quality clothing.

The history of cashmere fabric goes back a long way. Kashmir was already known in the 3rd century BC through the Maurya Empire, but it was not until the Middle Ages that the art of cashmere weaving reached its peak. The Mughal rulers, who conquered the region in the 16th century, promoted the production and distribution of the luxurious cashmere shawls, which were soon sought after throughout Europe and Asia.

Today, cashmere continues to stand for unsurpassed quality and timeless elegance. A cashmere sweater is not just a piece of clothing, but a statement of style and taste. The soft, delicate texture and outstanding thermal insulation make it the perfect companion for every season.

Preserving what is valuable

Cashmere Kintsugi produces high-quality sweaters with small imperfections such as holes
or stains are repaired with gold thread. This not only corrects mistakes,
but the visible repairs give the objects a unique
aesthetics and emphasize their individual history.
Instead of considering repair as a defect, it is seen as an integral and
beautiful part of the property.
The cashmere sweaters are not only repaired, but also carefully reconditioned by washing, steaming and brushing.
This means that all Cashmere Kintsugi sweaters are as good as new, without using any new resources.
Animal suffering associated with conventional cashmere production is also reduced. With Cashmere Kintsugi, no goat has to lose its fur again.
Wearing cashmere is therefore beneficial for the environment, animals and people alike and is a particularly sustainable option.

Cleaning and care of cashmere clothing

Cashmere clothing is easy to use because its natural properties make it a super material.
However, it must be treated differently than, for example, clothing made of cotton or polyester.
Here are some tips for you on how to properly clean and care for your cashmere clothing:

Ventilation:

  • Cashmere rarely needs washing, but you can simply air sweaters on a hanger or lying flat to freshen them up.

Hand wash :

  • Use lukewarm water and a mild wool detergent.
  • Move the clothing gently through the water without rubbing or wringing.
  • Rinse thoroughly with clean water.

Machine wash :

  • If hand washing is not possible, use the gentle cycle on your washing machine.
  • Set the temperature to cold (20°) and the lowest possible spin cycle
  • Use detergent specifically for wool and cashmere to re-grease the fibers.

Drying :

  • Do not tumble dry cashmere clothing.
  • Lay the garment flat on a towel and shape it into its original shape.
  • Let it dry in a cool, well-ventilated place.
  • Hanging on a clothes rack is also possible, but it may leave marks on the line.

Storage :

  • Store cashmere clothes folded and lying flat to avoid deformation.
  • Place lavender sachets or cedar wood in the closet to keep moths away.

Iron :

  • Cashmere is wrinkle-resistant, so it doesn't actually need to be ironed.
  • If you have one, use a steamer or the steam function on your iron. Alternatively, hang the item of clothing in the shower cubicle after a warm shower. The warm steam smooths the garment naturally and sustainably.

Pilling :

  • Remove pilling with a special brush or a gentle razor without damaging the fabric.

Stain removal :

  • Treat stains immediately with cold water and a mild detergent.
  • Dab the stain gently without rubbing.

With these care tips, your cashmere clothing will stay soft, luxurious and in top condition.
