It all started with a broken plate

Over 10 years ago I completed my Master’s degree in
art history and sociology.
Before the oral exam, I was incredibly nervous. Thankful that my grandma
After I had read my master thesis and approved it, I called her directly
after the exam and told her that I had passed. But she just said: "Oh, I already knew that. The plate from your
Great-grandma just fell off the wall. I'll pick up the pieces for you."
She then gave me this plate, wrapped
in a decorative handkerchief. These rested in the closet for a long time. When my beloved
Grandma died, I remembered the broken pieces and
carefully unpacked it. I had heard about the Kintsugi method, got
I got all the materials and used them to repair the plate.
Piece by piece I glued the parts back together, refined them with
Gold dust.
The process of gluing the plate back together was also a process for me.
When the plate was healed again, my
Heart also feels a little healed.

Kintsugi – not only a repair method, but also a philosophy

In my opinion, processing grief, loss or hurt can also
through physical craftsmanship. By repairing, we repair
not only the broken piece, but also ourselves. It is a process of coping.
The technique of Kintsugi also teaches us that we can learn from mistakes and
can emerge from crises even stronger if we deal with them
learn.
It is a philosophy based on the appreciation of imperfection and
Acceptance of change and transience.
The method celebrates the history and value of an object by
Repairs and defects are made visible and thus the concept of
"Wabi-Sabi" reflects the beauty of imperfection and
Emphasis is placed on the transient.

Cashmere Kintsugi – how gold gets onto the sweater

Cashmere is one of the most valuable fabrics in the world – it is soft, cuddly and warm.
A cashmere sweater feels like a protective hug.
In my eyes, it fits perfectly into the concept of Kintsugi, the principle
also applicable to damaged cashmere clothing.
Cashmere Kintsugi produces high-quality sweaters with small imperfections such as holes
or stains are repaired with gold thread. This not only corrects mistakes,
but the visible repairs give the objects a unique
aesthetics and emphasize their individual history.
Instead of considering repair as a defect, it is seen as an integral and
beautiful part of the property.

Kintsugi – not only beautiful, but also sustainable

Kintsugi gives us the opportunity to reuse things that would otherwise be thrown away
to repair and continue to use the equipment.
This will conserve the resources available on earth.
Sweaters that would have ended up in incineration or shredders are now
a second life and experience appreciation.
When it comes to cashmere, the aspect of animal welfare must also be considered: wool production
is often associated with animal suffering, farmers are exploited. Cashmere clothing
Repairing means not causing further animal suffering.
